Bilson was one of many in a long showbiz family history including her father, writer/director Danny Bilson, her great grandfather who worked in the trailers at RKO Pictures as well as her great grandmother who was also a screenwriter.

During her youth Bilson was involved in a car crash that left her with occasional memory loss and migraines, although the incident prompted her to become a more cautious teen. In 1996 Rachel graduated from Notre Dame High School determined to pursue a career in acting. Beginning with small roles on commercials for products such as Raisin Bran and Pepto-Bismol, Bilson soon graduated to more respected roles on series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.

After being casted to FOX’s wildly successful evening drama The O.C. in 2003, Bilson, gracing Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100 List for 2005, fell head over heels for onscreen boyfriend Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), with whom she purchased a house with in late 2004.
