Jiroemon kimura eat until 80 percent full, Jiroemon Kimura celebrated his 116 anniversary on Friday at his home in Kyotango City. Except for the Japanese centenarian, there are only 11 other people still alive who were born in the 19th century.

On his birthday, Jiroemon Kimura received a message from the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who said: “You give us pride and confidence in the people of Japan.”

The birthday man was also visited by the mayor of Kyotango City, who came in to wish Kimura well and to give him a binder full of birthday messages.

Kimura is the oldest person in the world and also the oldest living man, according to the international press.

Although Kimura stayed in bed, he smiled at guests as they stopped by the home he shares with his grandson’s 60-year-old widow in Kyotango City.

Kimura worked as a postman for about 40 years before he started farming at the age of 65. He continued to farm until was 90. He had seven children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Kimura practices the “hara hachi bu,” which means eat until you are 80 percent full, he does not smoke and only drinks a “modest” amount of alcohol.
